AgustaWestland’s AW139M will tour South America: the Italian Air Force’s helicopter will be exhibited at FIDAE 2014 in Santiago de Chile until the end of the week. After then, it will start a demonstration tour in Latin America.
For the Anglo-Italian Company, this is an important opportunity for showing to the local governments the features of the aircraft, which is the militarised version of the medium helicopter. The helicopter can be used for SAR missions, surveillance, and troop support on battlefields.

From the technical point of view, the AW139M has a search radar, an infrared detector with a video recorder. Besides, the helicopter can count on a number of devices for extraction and rapid embarkation, a detail conceived for Combat SAR’s operations.
At present, the rotorcraft is used by the Italian Air Force, the Irish Air Corps, the Qatar Emiri Air Force, and the Royal Thai Army.
